The School of the Art Institute of Chicago is a private college associated with the Art Institute that prides itself on being a highly esteemed creative school. They offer a wide range of specializations and several masters programs. The Department of Ceramics offers a generous mix of traditional techniques as well as more contemporary and industrial uses. Students will learn to malleable and thoughtful in their works. The cross-discipline style of learning at SAIC pushes students to work on their art, design, and craft together. SAIC’s Ceramics program includes work on all forms of ceramic pieces from contemporary vessels, installations, and more.
Working towards the Ceramics MFA prepares students to work directly in their field. The program requires 60 credits ranging from Art History, to several critiques and exhibitions. Students are encouraged to be experimental and use mixed media in their works. Interdisciplinary work is encouraged for this reason to help increase the breadth and depth of works that come out of this program. To expand students’ critical reflection of their works, they may also participate in critiques consisting of panels of professionals from a wide variety of fields.
