Most people in Chicago have had neck pain in the past, and while it is relatively common, it can be prevented. You can go to a chiropractor to have your pains reduced or stopped, but there are many home remedies available that can prevent your pains and allow you to live freely and comfortably.
Cervical Pillow
Orthopedic pillows, also called cervical pillows, are an excellent option for those that currently suffer from pains in the body. They are contoured to support the shape of your head and neck, with a deeper depression for the head. This allows your body to stay in perfect spinal alignment.
Back Sleep
While it may seem strange, sleeping on your back can also prevent these pains and will allow the whole spine to be at rest while you’re sleeping. While most people like to sleep on their stomach or side, you should try sleeping on your back for a few days to see if it helps. If you must sleep on your stomach or side, consider a pillow that is about four to six inches thick, so your head doesn’t turn unnaturally, causing soreness.
Computer Screen
Most people are on a computer or mobile device for more of their day, through work and play. If you find that you have problems, it may be your computer screen. Make sure that you can sit comfortably in your chair and that your arms do not go too high to reach the computer. You should be able to sit with good posture. Close your eyes and then open them to ensure that your gaze is in the middle of the computer screen. If not, you may need to raise the height by putting books underneath or using particular screen-heightening tools that are available through office stores.
Telephone
When talking on the phone, many people place the phone between their shoulder and ear. While this can allow you to multitask, it can be extremely painful for the upper shoulders and back. Instead, use a hands-free device or make sure you only hold the telephone in your hand. If you need both hands for something, ask the other person to wait a moment or hang up and call back later.
Exercise
Exercising the neck muscles can help keep them supple and strong. You can typically find many activities online or through your chiropractor, which can help keep problems at bay.
Chicago neck pain is a relatively common experience, but it doesn’t have to be. Use the helpful tips and if they don’t work, consider visiting Chicago Chiropractic & Sports Injury Centers today to schedule an appointment.
