How to Take Better Care of a Commercial Exhaust Fan in Any U.S. Garage

If you operate an auto repair garage or body shop, the equipment you rely heavily on is your facility’s exhaust fans. These fans must be larger units that are capable of more than the typical HVAC exhaust fan in a residential home. For this reason, commercial garage exhaust fans must be given a little more preventative care. These steps can help.

Remove and Clean the Exhaust Cover

The first step in this process is to remove the exhaust cover, and this is usually done by pulling off the metal tension clips. If the cover is fastened with screws, you may have to use a screwdriver to remove them. Once removed, the exhaust cover can be cleaned with dish soap and warm water.

Vacuum Excess Dust

The next step in this process is to vacuum away the excess dust and debris that you’ll find among the fan blades. You can use the wand attachment on a regular vacuum cleaner for this purpose. Don’t worry about vacuuming everything off the blades as you’ll clean the blades next.

Clean the Blades

The final step in this process is to use a dry dusting cloth to clean the blades of your commercial garage exhaust fans. If there’s grime or dust that won’t come off right away, try dampening the cloth with warm water. Once you’re done cleaning the blades, reattach the exhaust cover with the tension clips or screws. If you’re using screws, be sure they’re fully tightened.
