Responsible pet owners know how important they are and as such they go out of their way to ensure their pet is given a safe and healthy environment in which to live. It is essential that a pet have a healthy diet and plenty of exercise and attention, all of which are an important part of a healthy lifestyle. It is equally important that owner and animal have a strong relationship with their Wicker Park vet.

Routine visits to the veterinarian are equally as important as your annual physical checkup at your doctor. Animals are masters at hiding symptoms that might indicate they are not well, responsible pet owners should recognize certain subtle changes in their pet’s behavior that may be an indication that they should see the vet.

* Appearance: If you notice any marked change in the physical appearance of your pet, perhaps a change in posture or mobility it often means there is a problem. If your dog or cat appears lethargic or moves much slower than usual or avoids making eye contact with you it is an indication that professional intervention is needed.

* Diet: When your pet shows a change in its eating habits there is definitely something amiss. If your pet refuses to eat ad food sits in the bowl for hours or the animal drinks a great deal of water these are signs that you should take it to a Wicker Park vet.

* Digestive problems: If your dog is not “doing its business” normally or your cat is not visiting the litter box there may be a problem. The same is true if your pet vomits frequently. In the event these changes persist for a couple of days a trip to the vet is warranted.

These are but three symptoms that warrant observation, keep an eye open for any marked change in your pets physical or emotional behavior, it can be a warning sign of distress.

Your pet can’t tell you that it is not feeling well; it is up to you to read the signs. If your dog or cat is acting different it may indicate a trip to a Wicker Park vet is in order. You are invited to contact Village West Veterinary for immediate assistance.
