Training for a Mud Run

by | Mar 2, 2017 | Fitness

Mud runs have become more popular than ever in the last few years. These runs are so popular because they add a new twist to running. Instead of just running a paved course, you are running through fields and climbing over obstacles and swimming through mud. While some of the smaller ones are easy, they are usually just a 5k; the larger runs can be intense and require training to be able to complete. These runs can be up to 15 miles or more with dozens of obstacles, so you need to be prepared.

Join a Gym

There are gyms in Woodbridge, ON and other areas that will help you reach the level of balanced fitness that you need for a mud run. Many of these gyms are CrossFit gyms, so you will also have the benefit of having a group that you can workout with.

Run

While running is not the only challenge in a mud run, it is often the biggest. Many people will go into a mud run in good shape, but lacking cardio. These people may do well on the obstacles but then suffer on the run. You need to make sure that your workout routine is well balanced to be sure that you will be able to complete the run without issue.

Be Safe

Mud runs are much more dangerous than normal runs. You are far more likely to slip and break something running through slick mud than you are running on the road. Be sure you have the right shoes for the terrain you are running on and watch your step. Nothing will ruin your day at a run quite as fast as a broken leg.

If you are interested in doing a mud run then start training now. It is never too soon to start getting ready. One of the most important things to remember is to be safe. Also, be sure to keep your workout balanced.
