When To Replace and When To Call For An Appliance Repair Service

by | May 11, 2013 | Electrical

Consider how old an appliance is, the warranty, and a replacement price before you try to fix a broken down appliance. Other factors to consider in the replace or repair debate include the time it may take to repair the item versus the time to replace. How long can you live without this particular appliance and how long with an Appliance Repair Service take?

The first thing to consider will be the age of any appliance. Many appliances have a useful life expectancy and that will help you determine if you should repair or replace. If the item is newer then the warranty should cover a majority of the expenses. If the appliance is closer to the end of its useful return on investment, consider your replacement options.

If your equipment is older but still can be repaired for a relatively inexpensive amount, consider what you could save on utilities if you were to replace. Energy saving products such as a washer, dryer or refrigerator can save you a lot in your utility bill every month. Check with your utility company as they may have incentive plans to pay you back for turning in an older model that is not as energy efficient.

Lastly, keep in mind that if there is a repair that needs to be made to an older unit, it may be a sign that there are more repairs to come. For instance if a belt burns out in a unit then it may have caused damage to those parts around it. Just replacing the belt may be inexpensive enough but to replace the other burned out parts will start to add up. Recycling the appliance now may be the cheaper alternative in the long run.

On the other hand, if the appliance is still new but no longer under warranty, before you call out the Top Brand Washer Repair service, try a couple of home maintenance projects first. Depending on the appliance you can easily clean out vents, coils, filters or even try unplugging the unit and plugging it back in to see if the appliance works again. Sometimes it may be a simple tune up to get it back to working condition.
