Often, illness suddenly crops up without warning. When this happens, what do you do if your family doctor is not available? One of the most common options considered in Salt Lake City is a visit the emergency room (ER). Here people can receive the level of emergency care they need.

What Is Emergency Care?

There are different levels of care that doctors and their facilities address. Family doctors generally handle every day illnesses and disorders that occur. These are not usually life threatening. If the injury or illness cannot wait, yet does not require an ambulance, then an urgent care clinic may be perfect. If the problem results in incapacitation of your body, you need more than urgent care. You will need to visit the nearest ER.

Conditions Requiring Emergency Care

While some conditions may create confusion about what to do, certain instances do not. Below are a few examples of conditions that demand you visit a Salt Lake City ER:

  • Compound fracture (Examples include breaks where the bones actually poke through the skin )
  • Deep knife wounds
  • Difficulty breathing
  • Gunshot wounds
  • Heart attack indications such as chest pain of more than two minute duration
  • Heavy, uncontrollable bleeding
  • Homicidal feelings
  • Major trauma to the head
  • Moderate to severe burns
  • Poisoning
  • Seizures, convulsions or loss of consciousness
  • Serious head, neck or back trauma
  • Pregnancy-related complications
  • Severe abdominal pain
  • Stroke indications such as vision loss, sudden numbness, weakness, slurred speech and/or confusion
  • Suicidal feelings

These medical conditions or situations demand the expertise and equipment only an ER can provide.

Emergency Care

Serious health issues demand attention immediately. The injuries and conditions may be able to obtain care from an urgent care facility. In the case of acute health problems, this will not suffice. You need to go immediately to a Salt Lake City facility where doctors are adept at handling such matters. This is the emergency care department.
